Nutrition is the very foundation for good health as what we put into our bodies, alongside external influences, affect every cell in the body and is the core of one's immunity.
In 2013 I was diagnosed with a debilitating condition called Candida Albicans triggered by being over-prescribed antibiotics. This auto-immune condition caused a wide range of symptoms each one having a negative effect on my life. After countless appointments with my GP and with no answers, I turned to food and healed myself from the inside out, this experience had such a profound affect on my life that I retrained as a natural health and nutritional therapist.
Gut health is often overlooked when we become unwell. We have a delicate and intricate ecosystem within our body called the microbiome which consists of micro-organisms such as friendly bacteria, fungus and other compounds that play a vital role in helping us to fight infections, which cause disease and inflammation, and can impact on our weight. Factors such as fast food, yoyo diets, stress, the use of medicines, hormones, trauma, anti-bio-tics, heavy metals, too much calcium, stimulants such as caffeine and medical procedures can all deplete this organism. When when the body is in this weakened state we are more prone to conditions such as arthritis, skin conditions, headaches, nausea, skin disorders, acid reflux, low mood, anxiety, IBS, inflammation, auto immune conditions, weight gain and loss and potentially more serious conditions including high cholesterol, heart disease and some cancers.
