Nutrition is the very foundation for good health as what we put into our bodies, alongside external influences, affect every cell in the body and is the core of one's immunity.
Our digestive track consists of a delicate and intricate ecosystem which consists of micro-organisms such as friendly bacteria, fungus and other compounds that play a vital role in helping us to fight infections, which cause disease and inflammation, and can impact our weight and mental health. Factors such as fast food, yoyo diets, stress, the use of medicines, synthetic hormones, trauma, anti-bio-tics, heavy metals, too much calcium, stimulants such as caffeine, and medical procedures can all deplete this organism. During your first appointment we look further into your symptoms, from the previously completed health assessment, which I email over to you prior to your appointment, and carry out a health check. We work to gain a deeper understanding of what has been going on for you so that we can plan the best way forward to improve your health. You receive a written document of my recommendations to support you on your road to better health. Following this appointment you will receive either a phone call or email a couple of days following your appointment to check in with you and to answers any questions which you may have.
A follow up appointment is then booked between 2 to 6 weeks depending on your circumstances whereby we review your progress and symptoms with a view to re-introduce some foods in a carefully controlled way. A health assessment is a set of checks that give you an overview of your current health and include Blood Pressure, Pulse, Cholesterol and Blood Glucose Levels, this is an invaluable tool particularly as high cholesterol can cause huge health risk.

The great thing about a health assessment is that it gives you a valuable insight to where any improvements could be made to prevent health problems and to promote health longevity. The term ‘food sensitivity or intolerance’ and ‘food allergy’ are often confused and are two very different things. A genuine food allergy is relatively rare with only about 2% of the adult population affected. A food allergy is a swift response by the body’s immune system to a specific food which often results in an allergic reaction within minutes to two hours. This type of allergic reaction is commonly associated reactions to peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs and seafood. Whilst the symptoms of an intolerance can impact the person’s quality of life they are not life threatening. Food intolerances are much more common than food allergies.
When foods and drinks are digested the proteins within them are broken down into smaller fragments for easy absorption into the body. Larger fragments can pass through without breaking down, and sometimes the body reacts by attacking them using antibodies called Immunoglobulin G’s (IgG). When these trigger foods are eliminated clients report less bloating, reduced digestive pain, more energy, less allergies, reductions in weight and a better quality of life.
