Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a manual therapy in which a variety of massage techniques, involving specialised and gentle regular pumping actions, are employed to move the skin in the direction of lymphatic flow.

This Massage stimulates the lymph channels and drains excess fluid.  The aim is to encourage the extra lymph to move away from the swollen area so that it can drain normally. Breathing techniques are an important part of this relaxing treatment.

The Lymphatic System

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a delicate form of massage that was developed in Europe the 1930’s. It stimulates the body’s lymphatic system, improving the metabolism, helping the body to eliminate waste and toxins and provides a boost to the immune system.  The lymphatic system is responsible for helping fluid and waste to leave the body and for regulating the immune system. When the lymphatic system is blocked, fluids build up causing the entire system to break down, become toxic and leaving us feeling unwell and lethargic. This can also lead to a weak immunity and lack of resistance to disease.

Lymphatic Massage is a gentle and relaxing massage, involving a light, rhythmic hand movements to promote lymph flow. Certain lymph nodes may be slightly sensitive or painful due to blockages.

A Lymphatic Massage will help to release these blockages and alleviate pain and other symptoms.

This treatment can benefit anyone, especially if you are feeling tired or low in energy.

Beneficial for those who live a sedentary lifestyle in helping to reduce puffiness and swelling.

It is cited as having a positive effect on problem skin, cellulite, dysfunctional respiratory systems and people who suffer regularly from common illnesses like cold and flu.

Lymphatic massages is particularly useful when the body is healing after physical trauma. After an injury or surgery, lymph vessels can become overwhelmed with the demand placed on them from the bodies natural want to heal.  When tissues are swollen, Lymphatic Massage is the treatment of choice as it helps the body to remove proteins and waste products from the affected area and reduces the swelling, this helps to decrease the pressure on the cells promoting healing.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is also  an important part of a Lymphedema treatment as it stimulates the lymphatic system and encourages the flow of lymph fluid. A course of treatment may last a few weeks and can be repeated again in the future.

Structural Integration Massage Therapy works with both superficial and deep tissue such as our connective tissue, called fascia, and our muscle fibres.

Using slow stretching techniques in combination with massage, dry cupping and heat helps to break down build-ups of fascia adhesions, which occur when muscles are injured and mobility is restricted, and loosens tight muscles resulting in reduced pain, better posture and more movement.

Although very rare, occasionally after a treatment there may be some very light redness which is caused by red blood cells rushing to the surface which will subside within 7 days.  Please note this is different from bruising, which is caused by profound injury and traumatic bleeding.  This treatment is unsuitable for those who have blood conditions including haemophilia and blood clots, those with a pacemaker or undergoing chemotherapy.
