FOOD SENSITIVITY / INTOLERANCE TESTING & FURTHER TESTING
The term ‘food sensitivity or intolerance’ and ‘food allergy’ are often confused and are two very different things. A genuine food allergy is relatively rare with only about 2% of the adult population affected. A food allergy is a swift response by the body’s immune system to a specific food which often results in an allergic reaction within minutes to two hours. This type of allergic reaction is commonly associated reactions to peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs and seafood. Whilst the symptoms of an intolerance can impact the person’s quality of life they are not life threatening. Food intolerances are much more common than food allergies.
When foods and drinks are digested the proteins within them are broken down into smaller fragments for easy absorption into the body. Larger fragments can pass through without breaking down, and sometimes the body reacts by attacking them using antibodies called Immunoglobulin G’s (IgG). When these trigger foods are eliminated clients report less bloating, reduced digestive pain, more energy, less allergies, reductions in weight and a better quality of life
Food Intolerance Test - £76.00 | Results within 24 hours
(Reduced to £70.00 (saving £6.00 if booked as part of a Nutrition appointment)
This in-clinic food intolerance measures IgG antibodies to 59 specific foods provides results within 24 hours. This can identify potential "problem foods" for the individual, as elevated IgG antibodies may be linked to inflammatory conditions within the body, manifesting in a range of health issue
What is an IgG?
IgG stands for Immunoglobulin (type G). Immunoglobulins are a class of proteins that function as antibodies produced by the immune system in response to foreign bodies entering the body.
Do high IgG antibody levels cause symptoms?
When a food causes the body to produce high levels of IgG then these antibodies combine with the protein in the food to form an ‘antigen-antibody complex’. These complexes are usually eliminated by other cells in the immune system. However, if the immune system is overloaded, these insoluble molecules become deposited in tissues within the body, where they may cause chronic inflammation and the subsequent production of symptoms.
Is it possible to have high IgG levels and not experience symptoms?
Yes, some people do have high IgG levels to certain foods but do not have any symptoms at all. This is most likely due to their immune system being extremely efficient at clearing away the antigen-antibody complexes before they have chance to be deposited in the tissues and cause a problem.
Why test for IgG antibodies to foods?
Eliminating 'problem' foods has been demonstrated to reduce symptoms in a number of conditions, both in independent studies and clinical practice. Excellent results have been obtained in patients with migraine, IBS, Candida and obesity.
What should be considered before testing?
A food intolerance test is not recommended during pregnancy as the immune system is suppressed. However, 4-6 weeks after giving birth should be ok. I am not able test on children under the age of 2 years as there is a possibility of false negative results occurring as the infant gut is more permeable than that of an adult coupled as immunity is still developing.
Customers should avoid the use of immuno suppressant medication, if possible, before the test is performed as this may have an impact upon the results.
How do I complete the test?
The test requires a small vial to be filled with a blood from a simple pin prick. I able to process your results within 24 hours using my in-clinic testing facilities.
